These are the main conventions of music videos that we (as the audience) most commonly see. Costume, theme and artists all come under mise-en-scene which creates depth for the video and helps reinforce the narrative. The style, theme and genre are all macro-technical elements that establish the type of song it is. The theme of the song can be the colours used, the fonts used or the titles used. Theme can link with the album for the artist. For example; Jack White's new album 'Lazaretto' has a theme of blue, black and white. This is followed throughout all of his songs on this album. Jack White has followed the same technique for his first album and when he was part of The White Stripes; they all followed red, black and white. The reason behind a colour scheme helps the audience to recognise the artists album, songs or singles; these colours become recognisable for that particular artist.
