Filming Diary

Today at 5:11pm, I arranged to film the scenes with my male actors. These are the messages between Eddie Moxon and I; seeing if he's up for being in my music video and when to film it. We have settled on Monday 9th February 2015 at 12:40 as this is when we are available.

I spoke to Jack Conman and Harry Clark in order to plan for Monday's shooting. They are both available therefore we will be meeting at 12:40 on Monday at the recording studio at Wyke College in order to film.

Planning to Film

These are a few conversations me and Hannah Morice have had in order to arrange filming schedules. I am finding it extremely difficult to film Hannah as she lives far away however I will try my best to get her to the filming location on Saturday 6th December.

Text One

Here, I have messaged Hannah Morice asking if she would be up for starring in my music video, Hannah agreed to star in my film. This was on the 10th September at 5:00pm.
Text Two

In these messages, I reassured Hannah that I’m here to help her out or if she has any questions. This was on the 10th September at 5:30pm.

Text Three

In this message, I am just clarifying with Hannah Morice that she is willing to wear contact lenses. I have done this because I want to make sure that Hannah is comfortable with wearing contact lenses. This was on 13th November at 6:45pm.

Text Four

In this text, I explain to Hannah what I want her to be wearing. I have shown this to Hannah because I want her to warm to her character before the event of filming. I have also shown Hannah my costume moodboard therefore she can understand the genre and theme of my music video. I also wanted to be sure that Hannah is comfortable wearing a size 10/12 dress wise.

Text Five

In this text, Hannah is just clarifying with me that she is okay with wearing size 10/12 white long dress.

Text Six

This is my first message to Hannah on Saturday 22nd November. I am clarifying when Hannah is available to shoot my music video with me. We have agreed to shoot my music video on Saturday 6th December.
 Text Seven

Here, I am discussing with Hannah travel arrangements from Elstronwick to Hull to Brough and back. We agreed that a train from Elstronwick to Hull will be the easiest and most convenient way to get Hannah to South Cave. This is due to the  fact that the buses that used to run from Hull to Elstronwick have been cancelled and the train is not expensive. I have offered to pay for Hannah's travel to and from South Cave as she is doing me a favour.

Text Eight

Again, me and Hannah are discussing the travel arrangements to get her to South Cave Quarry. We are discussing anything Hannah will need to bring with her as well as the prices for the train.

Text Nine

We are also discussing prices of the train and buses here and who is paying. Me and Hannah have been discussing how to get Hannah to South Cave. Hannah will get the bus to Hull City Centre from Hedon (this will cost £3.50), she will then get the train from Hull City Centre to Brough station where I will meet Hannah and bring her back to my house in order to prepare for the music video shooting.

Creativity

What are your initial ideas?
Initially, I want to create a narrative in which the female protagonist is lost within herself. I will present this through the use of cinematography; high and low angles will help enhance the connotations such as vulnerability and weakness to the audience.

Where did you take inspiration from?
My inspiration came from the American Comedy Horror movie Dark Shadows. I like the use of the scandinavian lighting throughout the whole of the movie as it helps support the genre and connotes to the audience feelings of unease because it is not an inviting colour scheme.

Digital Technology

The digital technology that I have used so far consists of cameras, iPhone, blogger, prezi, emails, final cut pro, editing software, Facebook and media player.

Camera: I have used my iPhone and Canon EOS 500D camera to take still location shots and test shots.
Blogger: I have used Blogger to record all of my progress, research and planning.
Prezi: I have used prezi in order to present elements of my planning and research.
Facebook: I used Facebook in order to communicate with Hannah Morice. We discussed the time, place and date of when we're going to film. We also discussed what she needed and if she agrees with wearing what I want her to wear.
Final Cut Pro: I used Final Cut Pro in order to edit my animatic together. I have never used Final Cut Pro before therefore it was a struggle to use however I sat with Ben (the media technician) and he went through how to use it etc.

Filming Diary

19th November 2014

Today I planned to go to South Cave Quarry to get my test shots. I went at 5:00pm as this was the only available time I could go. However by this time it was dark, as a result, this caused a problem for my test shots as they did not appear with the best quality possible. I will have to reschedule when to take my tests shots but this time I will take the test shots in the daylight in order to establish the setting and location.

26th November 2014

Today I went to South Cave Quarry in order to take my test shots. I went at roughly 3:00pm as it was still light outside; this allowed me to take my test shots more accurately. Also I will be filming my final music video during the day time therefore this will help me again an idea of what my music video will look like in daylight.

6th December 2014
I have chosen to shoot my first shoot on the 6th December, I have contacted Hannah Morice and she is also able to make this date. I am going to capture all the scenes with Hannah Morice in. I am going to shoot all the shots of Hannah on Saturday 6th December. The filming session will start at 1pm however I am unaware how long it will last; a problem with this may be that it gets darker a lot quicker in the evenings therefore me and Hannah need to get as much of the filming done on during the daytime to make the most of the lighting. Hannah also has a strict schedule as she has to be in Hull for later on that night therefore I need to complete (if not all) of my filming on Saturday. Me and Hannah were having a discussion about how she would get to South Cave as she lives in Elstronwick. We came to the conclusion that she will get the train from Elstronwick to Hull to Brough where I will pick her up and bring to South Cave Quarry: I am paying for her train. As we struggled to organise getting Hannah to South Cave, we obviously had to plan how to get Hannah home. Luckily, Hannah has to be in Hull on the night as she is staying at her friends house therefore I will drive her to Hull in order for her to get to her friends house on time. I have also checked what the weather will be like on Saturday 6th December, here are my results:

I checked www.metoffice.gov.uk for these weather forecasts, they show that the weather on Saturday 6th December is going to be mild winds, mostly dry however with frost and fog patches. There may be rain moving southeastwards Thursday night and Friday therefore this may lead after effects on Saturday morning.  On Saturday night, it will be cold, and clearer conditions, following with showers, some turning wintry.

I also checked the weather forecast on BBC weather. I decided to check two different weather websites, in order to get a more accurate idea as to what the weather will be like on my filming date (6th December). On  the BBC weather website, it says that from 12:00pm to 3:00pm on Saturday 6th December, it will be a sunny day, only reaching 6 degrees.

Firstly, I met Hannah and Holly at Brough Train Station at 1:15pm where I drove them back to my house in order to get dressed for the shooting. It took Hannah roughly an hour to apply her make-up and her contacts and put on her dress as well as reading the storyboard and the lyrics of my song. I then drove to South Cave Quarry which took us roughly 5 minutes, where we set up our location for filming (forest). We filmed every scene with Hannah in forest; we used the tracking as well as the hand held camera. We then went out on to the quarry where I took a couple of shots of Hannah over looking the quarry.

Test Shots - South Cave Quarry

This is the forest location in which I will set my music video. When I shoot my music video, it will be during the day. All the shots in my music video that feature the female in the forest will be set here; this is a perfect location for my music video. Through the use of mise-en-scene I can portray the conventional elements of this genre by filming in a location that is secretive and unique that can, evidently support the narrative.

I will have my female protagonist walk out towards the open-space quarry, this is good as mise-en-scene supports the narrative ("empty" "there's nothing inside" and "wake me up inside").

This is where I will film the band in my musc video. I will use this room because it is a recording studio and has all the necessary equipment I need, for example; a drum kit, guitar and microphone. This room is sound proof therefore it will contain the sound inside.
